That we are helping our people that make aircraft keep there jobs, per the Obama announcement to sell aircraft to india??????

WTF about all our unemployed?

"The commercial deals he announced include the purchase of 33 737s
from Boeing by India's SpiceJet Airlines; the Indian military's plans to
buy aircraft engines from General Electric; and preliminary agreement
between Boeing and the Indian Air Force on the purchase of 10 C17s.

For the most part, the deals were already pending,
but the White House contends Obama's visit to India helped finalize
them. Officials said the deals would support 53,670 U.S. jobs, but it
was not clear how many, if any, new jobs would be created as a result."

As we did China, we gave India hundreds of thousands of our jobs per Gobal trade…..stinks

Over the last 20 years both parties can claim bragging rights to sending American jobs to other countries. As long as American corporations are rewarded for exporting jobs we will see our economy erode.

We keep hearing that cheaper goods are better for our economy but when wal-mart and burger king are the only companies hiring no one will be able to buy the goods at any price.

U.S. Companies that produce goods in other countries for U.S. consumption should pay a heavy tax, companies that create jobs in America should get big tax incentives.  stinks

Example:  I just had quoted a machine tool component common to many machines.

The U.S. quote was:  $400 with 4 to 6 weeks delivery

The Polish manufactured quote was: $285 immediate delivery (U.S. distributor)

The Chinese manufactured quote was: $107 immediate delivery (U.S. distributor)

We're out of business!  I don't think that a true "service" oriented economy is realistic.  When every single good one purchases is foreign made……and the wealthy send their money out of the country in foreign investments..it's Argentina….

The US has the 2nd highest corporate taxes in the industrialized world.

The US has some of the most regulated industries in the world.

US industries can make the same product overseas without worrying about protecting the snail darter or providing nursing rooms for their employees.  The cost of labor overseas is half the cost of the unionized labor here in the US.

So tell me again, why are the corporations to blame for jobs shipping overseas?

Its really about the cheap labor….i have called on manufacturing plants in the Carolina's and Virgina for 30+ years and have dealt with Owners and presidents of these companies..i hear a lot from them….they close their plants here and  get the work done in Honduras for 75cents an hour..work the plants there 7 days a week and no benefit's and no overtime..the only requirement is that if the plant stands for any reason, they steal have to pay the employees….(big deal)… they were given tax breaks to move their business there..if  an employee goes from the USA to there to work and train them and stays 330 days out of 365 his earnings are tax free, so in reality the USA taxpayer is paying to train an overseas employee to do what we used to do here.

I had a friend who went to Vietnam to  give some technical help. The workers in that plant are payed 11cents an hour plus free meals and a place to take a shower since most of the workers don't have running water at home….its all about Money and not taxes really…especially if its a company that's stock is publicly traded….they want to make Money for the stock holders…so to make more profits..they ship there jobs to the cheap labor….i have been told directly by some of these people its the wages that are the biggest cost.  One company told me the electricity they had to pay in their south American plant was 3 times higher than what they pay here…..Also Companies are allowed to write off a percentage of the cost of health insurance they pay for an employee here also…..its really just about the cheap labor.

Colonel,

Corporations are not to blame for anything other than taking advantage of loopholes and laws that their lobbyists have help create. I have heard that stat about US corporate taxes being one of the highest and I am not sure that is accurate.  Statistics can be tricky.

Here is one of the most quoted charts on personal and corporate tax around the world and it looks like we are #1 or #2

But a read of the fine print shows that the the US tax (progressive) was calculated  using the highest possible tax that could be imposed – not the actual tax paid.

"The 'Corporate rate' chart is noted as follows "Where a progressive (as

opposed to flat) rate structure applies, the top marginal rate is

shown." It is showing the top rate for corporate taxes, not a mean rate."

I think it's more about tax incentive for US corporations to move production abroad that it is the general tax.

Look up H.R. 4213 – a bill that as originally written would have removed many of the tax incentives and loopholes to make it less attractive for the country’s multinational giants like IBM and GE to expand their workforce in cheaper locations such as India by taxing their income from international markets, and encourage job creation by renewing several expired tax breaks for local R&D.

We are becoming a country "of the corporation, by the corporation, and for the corporation".

Around 1984 as a young captain, I got into a friendly argument with a colonel about the economy.  His contention was that the country could prosper in a service and information economy.  I argued – and still do – that an economy must be based on producing products that domestic and foreign markets would be willing to buy.  In the intervening 26 years, I think I have been vindicated.  This country has chased most of the producing heavy industry overseas through punishing tax policies that force business decisions based on tax implications instead of business needs, environmental regulations that have gone far beyond those necessary to protect clean water and air, supporting labor unions who have driven their members' companies out of business (think Eastern Airlines).  Certainly the cost of labor has driven some industry out of the country, so much so that it is more cost effective to ship raw materials from the US to China, where the products are made, and ship the finished product back to the US. No tax incentive is going to change that economic reality.

Until this country shakes off its nonsensical anti-business attitude, we are destined to an econonmic death spiral.  Information as a product is only valuable until that information is released and available on the open market: it's cheaper to reverse-engineer the product and manufacture the product in countries that don't enforce patents.  Service economies merely suck off the economic engine.
