There is a rumor being posted around the boards that there is a special task force in the Birmingham area that is targeting online escorts, and that it is funded and assisted by the Feds, and is "under pressure from the same extremist groups who had Craigslist.com shut down their adult ad section".

I had to post about this. IMHO people are getting paranoid about nothing.

Has anyone actually read the letter that was sent to Craigslist and noted who sent it?

It was not an extremist group who pressured  CL – it was a group of State Attorneys. If the state Attorneys in the 17 states that wrote the letter had any legal recourse they would have taken it. They do not.  So they wrote the letter to try to embarrass Craigslist. It worked!

Websites are protected by the safe harbor provisions of the Communications Decency Act, which keeps websites free from legal liability for the material other people post there. Look it up!

The adult section on CL was just one of several sections that generates revenue, they are more concerned about how the adverse publicity that the adult section is getting will affect their other revenue generating services like jobs, and real estate.

I don't know if Alabama has some task force organized to make some cheap headlines by arresting escorts and hobbyists – if that anything new? But I doubt it has any thing to do with the group behind the letter to CL. Alabama is not one of the states that wrote the letter.  So why would the same group even be in Alabama?

It's an election year, look for local and state politicians and police stepping up stings and arrests everywhere.

There is always some dumb shit who will stop for the 9 on the scale of 10 streetwalker even when he knows she is way to good looking to be on the street and there are always dumb ass girls who will set up a date with anyone who calls with out proper screening and common sense.

If they are that stupid they get what they ask for.

bottom line – don't be stupid, you won't get in trouble.
